CITY SHADOWS (Second Session)

The city sleeps, the streets are dim,
Whispers float on a hushed whim,
Neon signs cast a weary glow,
In shadows where the cold winds blow.

Footsteps echo, soft and slow,
A lonely figure down below,
Cigarette smoke curls in the night,
Holding back the creeping fright.

In these shadows, secrets hide,
Veiled in darkness, silent stride,
But in the moonlight's tender touch,
Even shadows whisper much.

A lonesome saxophone's sweet sigh,
Tells of love lost 'neath the sky,
Eyes that glimmer, hearts that ache,
Dreams that shattered, hearts that break.

Through the alleys, whispers weave,
Stories that the shadows leave,
Every corner, every turn,
Lessons that we never learn.

A hat pulled low, a coat drawn tight,
Hiding from the searching light,
Yet in the darkness, truth reveals,
What the heart forever feels.
